Sleepy Island
Overview
62% of cabin crew report suffering from chronic fatigue. 70% of human errors in aviation are linked to it. Yet the tools available to help them manage their rest remain basic or nonexistent.
Sleepy Island is a mobile app designed to help crew members optimize their recovery time, in-flight and at the airport.
We conducted qualitative interviews with flight attendants and cabin crew members to understand their real relationship with fatigue and sleep while on duty. Three verbatims shaped our approach:
"Fatigue is a real issue. As you get older, your endurance decreases. The schedule is tough, there are fewer stopovers, and recovery gets harder."
"When you land after a long flight, all you want to do is sleep. Your body doesn't always follow, especially when you still have to get home."
"Even when there are bunks on board, I can't sleep in them. So by the time I arrive, I'm exhausted."
These interviews were supplemented by personas, empathy maps, and user journey maps to chart the full experience, from the start of a shift to arriving home.
